9 Days Gorilla Trekking Safari in Rwanda & Uganda

8 days gorilla trekking tour in Rwanda and Uganda involving a tour in 3 national parks within the Virunga Conservation Area namely: Parc National des Volcans in Rwanda, Bwindi and Mgahinga in Uganda. The trip begins with a visit to Rwanda's Volcanoes national park, after which you will cross-over to Uganda and trek the gorillas in Mgahinga and then proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest national park. In the same circuit the visitor will take game drives in Queen Elizabeth national park. The intention of tracking the mountain gorillas twice is just to enable our visitor to be exposed to different gorilla families, birds, plants and setting. Apart from the gorillas one will have a chance of tracking the golden monkeys in Mgahinga as well.

ITINERARY

Day1: Arrival at Kigali Airport
Upon arrival at the airport our tour guide will welcome you to Kinigi for an overnight at Kinigi Guest Lodge.

Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking

In the morning transfer to Kinigi park headquarters for briefing and thereafter begin the gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park with the help of the park guides and porters. It normally takes 2 to 8 hours to encounter the mountain gorillas. Return to the lodge for your lunch and immediately transfer to Mgahinga national park in Uganda. This is a 3 hours drive to Kisoro. Dinner and overnight at Travelers Hotel or Kisoro Tourist Hotel

Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga national park
Wake up very early in the morning for a heavy breakfast and then proceed to the park headquarters for briefing before undertaking gorilla trekking in the lush rainforest at the slopes of Virunga ranges. Dinner and overnight at Travelers Hotel or Kisoro Tourist Hotel

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi
After your breakfast transfer to Bwindi en route visiting the famous Lake Mutanda surrounded by volcanoes, along the way make another stop-over at Kanaba Gap for clear viewing of the spectacular Virunga volcanoes and the terraced hills. The trip to Bwindi will take approximately 5 hours. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Homestead / Lake Kitandara Camp / Buhoma Community Bandas (FB)

Day5: Gorilla tracking in Bwindi
In the morning after your breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters at Buhoma for briefing and later at 8.30 am local time, begin the gorilla trek. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is so far the most exciting. Return to the lodge for late lunch and relaxation. In the evening a community walk is highly rewarding. Visit the Pygmy (Batwa) – the recent community to leave the forests where they have lived a life similar to the Stone Age. Their entertainment is so thrilling. Don’t miss it! Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Homestead / Lake Kitandara Camp / Buhoma Community Bandas (FB)

Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha

In the morning after your breakfast, transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park via Ishasha for viewing the tree-climbing lions. Arrive at Mweya Safari Lodge for a late lunch. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge / Jacana Safari Lodge (FB) 

Day 7: Wildlife safari in QENP
Undertake a game drive at dawn for the early risers including the predators such as leopards, lions, side-striped jackals, hyenas and genets before returning to their hide-outs. Return to the lodge for breakfast and later go for a game drive following the Kasenyi Track for an excellent game viewing. Expect to see buffaloes, elephants, different antelope species, different bird species, etc. Return to the lodge for your lunch. In the afternoon enjoy a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel where there is an incredible wildlife population. Then drive to Kibale national park. Dinner and overnight at Ndali Luxury Lodge / Rwenzori Mountain View Hotel

Day 8: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest national park
After your break drive to Kanyanchu park headquarters in preparation of chimpanzee trekking at 8.00 am local time. This primates walk starts at Kanyanchu and lasts between 2 – 4 hours. Kibale forest has the highest density of primates in Africa boasting of at least 13 primate species including the endangered chimpanzees, the threatened red colobus, the rare L’Hoest’s monkey, black-and-white colobus, blue monkey, grey-cheeked mangabeys, red-tailed monkey, bush babies and pottos. Drive to Fort Portal for lunch and then proceed to Kampala through Mubende arriving in Kampala in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Speke Hotel /The Lodge

Day 9: Reserved for a city tour or an excursion to the Source of the Nile and your scheduled flight.
