Rwanda government is highly dedicated to nature conservation and tourism. Rwanda naturally supports a widely varied fauna. The country, today, has three main conservation areas: the Volcano Park, Akagera Park and Nyungwe Forest. Each of these protects a very different ecosystem and combination of large mammals. Broadly speaking Akagera supports a typical savannah fauna dominated by a variety of antelope, other grazers such as zebra, buffalo and giraffe, the aquatic hippopotamus, and plains predators such as lion, leopard and spotted hyena.
Nyungwe Forest and the Volcano Park support a wide range of primates. The Volcanoes support bamboo specialists such as golden monkey and mountain gorillas, as well as relic populations of habitat-torelant species such as buffaloes and elephants. Nyungwe Forest harbours 400-strong troops of colobus monkys - the largest arboreal primate troops in Africa today; habituated chimpanzees, too, make Nyungwe a tourist hub in Africa.
