Safari Overview - Akagera Wildlife Park & Volcanoes Gorilla Park
This is a fantastic Rwanda gorilla and wildlife tour to Akagera national park, very rich in wild animals like elephants, Buffaloes, Giraffes, antelopes, Zebras and manay more, see on the game drive through the park, also proceed to Parc National des Volcans, a home of mountain Gorillas.
ITINERARY
Day 1 : Transfer to Akagera Wildlife Park
Your drive/guide will meet at the hotel in Kigali at 9-10am after breakfast and transfer to Akagera Wildlife park (2-3hrs). Arrive in time for lunch, relax and at Akagera lodge and take an evening game drive. Expect an encounter with African Elephants, Masai giraffes, Antelopes, Zebras, Buffaloes, gazelles, Impala, Baboons, Oribi, Butchel?s zebra, Topi, Bush baby, Leopard and Bushbuck among others. O/N at Akagera Game Lodge.
Day 2: Game drive & a boat ride
Wake up early for a cup of tea or coffee and proceed for a morning game drive in search for early raisers & predators returning to their hide outs. Expect an encounter with African Elephants, Masai giraffes, Antelopes, Zebras, Buffaloes, gazelles, Impala, Baboons, Oribi, Butchel?s zebra, Topi, Bush baby, Leopard and Bushbuck among others.
Retire to the lodges for late / full breakfast, relax as you wait for lunch, after which you will embark on a fantastic boat cruise on lake Ihema, where you may see huge crocodiles, Hippos, water birds such as Shoebill among others. O/N at Akagera Game Lodge.
Day 3 : Transfer to the Home of Gorillas
Enjoy fantastic scenic views as we drive back to Kigali and then proceed to Parc National des Volcans. Overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking adventure
Wake-up early and prepare your self for today?s incredible experience of gorilla tracking. You will transfer to Kinigi Headquarters with packed lunch, water and light rain jackets, attend a 30 minutes
briefing about Gorilla tracking. You will be allowed to stay with gorillas for 1 hour for observation and photographing. Descend to the lodge after tracking relax at the lodge, Overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.
Day 5 : Morning hike to Dian Fossey grave yard.
Have early breakfast and visit the grave of Dian Fossey, situated at the former Karisoke Research Center where Dian spent some twenty years studying the Mountain Gorillas. The trek to the site is quite spectacular, passing through bamboo forest and afro-montane habitats, criss-crossed trails with tracks of forest buffalo and elephant! You may see all sorts of wildlife as you make our way up and down to Karisoke, nestled between the volcanic peaks of Karismbi and Visoke.
