
10 Days gorilla safari expedition, Wildlife, Chimps, Gorillas & Culture
ITINERARY
This 10 days Gorilla safari Expedition in Rwanda will reward you with memorable experience and adventure in the country. You will be able to visit the three national parks in Rwanda, the genocide sites, the museum, the cultural visits, the city and many other places.
Different flora and fauna with in Rwanda parks will give you value for your trip.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and tour of the city.
You will be picked from the airport and transferred to your hotel. After briefing about the safari and
relaxation, you will be taken around the city to visit different areas like the craft market, the Gisozi genocide memorial site, Kigali museum, and much more.
You will then retire to your hotel for dinner and overnight as you prepare for the next days trip.
Day : Transfer from Kigali to Akagera national park.
After your breakfast, you will drive off to Akagera national park, a journey that will reward you with excitement as you view the scenic landscape of Rwanda. You will then check in at Akagera game lodge where you will have lunch. In the afternoon, you will go for game drive alongside Lake Ihema where different wildlife will be seen, including elephants, masai giraffe, Buffalo, zebra, hippos, Nile crocodile etc. You will also have a view of the lakes and the neighboring karagwe mountains in Tanzania. Then retire to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Game drive, transfer to Butare town.
After breakfast, you will go for early game drive to catch up with the early raisers and the predators as they return to their hideouts, as well as those animals you will not have seen the previous day. You will then return to the hotel and prepare to check out, heading for Butare town with enroute lunch in Kigali. The journey will take you through beautiful hills and cultivations. You have stopover visit of the King’s palace in Nyanza, art museum,. Then dinner and overnight in Butare.
Day 4: Transfer from Butare to Nyungwe Forest National Park
In the morning, you will visit the National Museum of Rwanda, providing you with a deeper insight into Rwandan history and culture before proceeding to Nyungwe Forest National Park where you will check in at Gusakura guest house and have your Lunch. In the afternoon, you may go for Colobus Monkey trekking and hike through lush forests, endless, green tea fields and take in the stunning views of your surroundings. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 5: Primate trekking and cultural tour
Having had your breakfast, you will enter the forest to trek the 13 primates species like the Chimpanzees, baboons, monkeys of different types, and over 300 bird species, which makes it special for birders. Return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.
You can then go for a cultural walk among the local communities in the afternoon where you will be entertained by Banyarwanda with dance and drummer, and get to know more about the local cultures. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 6: Transfer from Nyungwe Forest to Lake Kivu.
After you breakfast, you will travel to Gisenyi town, which is the town along Lake Kivu. This rewards you with captivating feel because of the waterfront and sandy beaches. After your lunch, you will visit the hotsprings and relax at the shores of the lake in the evenings. Dinner and overnight at Regina Hotel.
Day 7: Cultural Excursion and transfer to volcanoes national park
In the morning, you will travel to Musaze District to Iby'Iwacu Cultural Village for a wonderful and interactive experience, learning all about Rwandan traditions, culture, songs and dance before continuing to Volcanoes national park. You will then check in at Kinigi guest house where you will have dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Gorilla Trekking .
In the morning, you will have briefing from the park headquarters before embarking on the Mountain gorilla tracking. The trekking is quite challenging as it may take 1-7 hours as you walk through the forest on the virunga slope. A maximum of one hour is allowed with the gorilla. Then retire to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, you can take a walk in Ruhengeri market where you will get an opportunity to interact with the local community and buy some local fabrics. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Diane Fossey’s grave tour.
In the morning, you will visit the former karisoke research center where the grave of the famous American primatologist lies. Here you will learn more about the history of the park and behaviours of the gorillas. You will leave the place when you have learned a lot!! If your flight is in the morning, depart for Kigali, or else, you will go for cultural visits and entertainment by the banyarwanda before retiring for dinner and overnight.
Day 10: Transfer to Kigali.
In the morning, you will transfer for Kigali and if time allows, we shall have enroute stopover in Nyirangarama for a tour of the Urwibutso Ecotourism Project. Then on reaching Kigali, you will transfer o the airport for the outbound plane back home.
