4 Days Rwanda Birding Safari & Chimps Tracking in Nyungwe Forest

 

ITINERARY: Nyungwe Forest Primates & Birdwatching Tour

This 4 days birding and chimpanzee tracking in Rwanda takes place in Nyungwe forest national park, a home of 13 primate species and over 300 bird species.


Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest.
In the morning, you will set off for a scenic drive southwards to Nyungwe Forest National park, with en route stop over to watch different bird species. Reach Nyungwe in the evening for dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge/Gisakura guest house.


Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking & other primates in Nyungwe Forest
In the morning, you will enter the forest to track the amazing chimpanzees. You will also see other primates such as the baboons, colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys among others. Along the trail, you will spot different bird species such as the Handsome Francolin, Rwenzori Turaco, Mountain Sooty Boubou, Rwenzori Batis, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Archer’s Robin-chat, Rwenzori Hill Babbler, Grauer's Rush, Neumann’s and Grauer's Warbles, Masked Mountain Apalis, Stripe-breasted Tit and Strange Weaver, and a full range of Rwenzori double-collared, purple-throated, blue-headed and regal Sunbird. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.


Day 3: Full Day birding
On this day, you will move to the the southern part of the forest where you will have an experience with many bird species such as Red-collared Mountain Babbler, Neumann’s and Grauer's Warbles, Masked Mountain Apalis, Stripe-breasted Tit and Strange Weaver  which has its only easily accessible site here, as does Kungwe Apalis. In the afternoon, you will move to the the forest area around Gisakura guest house and the RDB Tourism & Conservation Campsite at Uwinka, where some of the more skulking species can be seen such as the Red-throated Alethe, Archer’s Robin-chat, Kivu Ground Thrush, Collared Apalis, and Shelley’s Dusky Crimsonwing, White-bellied robin-chat, Doherty’s and Lagden's bush-shrikes, White-tailed Blue Flycatcher, Great Blue Turaco, Barred long-tailed cuckoo and White-bellied crested flycatcher and many others. Dinner and overnight stay.


Day 4: Transfer to Kigali.
In the morning after breakfast, you will set off to Kigali, with en route stopovers in Butare, Nyanza king’s palace and other areas en route, reaching Kigali in the evening.
